what a mess...

Of my several BtVS-fic pet peeves that I ran into today, I'll share just one: I can't say as I really *like* Buffy all that much as a character, but still, if you are planning to write her as evil incarnate, call it an AU or something because jeepers, have you *seen* the show?

I actually really enjoy fics that make use of the 'people not realizing what they have in Xander' theme. And there are plenty of Buffy-bashing stories that I like. But generally if there isn't either a set-up that explains Buffy being the ultimate uber-bitch or a warning about an OTT characterization or something like that, it has to be a really awesome story to overcome that, because hey, IMHO, a *huge* part of what makes a story a good one is good characterization, and Buffy just isn't someone who actively hates Xander.

Testing to see if I can really post from my (out of date :-)) Semagic client. I am apparently taking the IJ business seriously. I spent 3/4 of dinner tonight explaining the whole kerfuffle triad to the spouse (the basic accounts piece, the politically incorrect interests piece, and the "you're all idiots" interview piece). I am seriously considering starting up my TS comms over here, but... I just don't know. It's tough, the thing that makes LJ such a great place is that we're all there. And everybody trying to be in two places at once isn't going to work... but how does an entire fandom move en masse? And hell, even if all of TS-on-LJ became TS-on-IJ, what about the BtVS comms I like to watch? And the couple of non-fannish folks I like to keep an eye on? I've got a permanent LJ account, they aren't ever going to get any additional $ off of me, but still... damn, I don't know...

Since I decided, for a variety of privacy, lack-of-time, and other reasons to keep my LJ a strictly fannish thing, I've not been updating much anyway, and I am in a highly conflicted state about LJ right now based on not just all the stupid stuff they've been doing but the fact that apparently SUP thinks that their users are retarded and useless, I really don't know just what sort of updating I'm going to be doing here. But... I'm definitely feeling the time is upon us...
